An out-of-control SUV rammed into the front of Ridgefield (NJ) Volunteer Fire Company 1’s firehouse, on Broad Avenue, on the evening of March 11, 2024.

The driver self-extricated and was checked by EMTs but refused medical attention. There were no other injuries.

The vehicle rammed through a guard rail separating the firehouse and a nearby store before crashing into a storage area at the front of the building, creating serious structural damage. The apparatus bay doors were also affected, but the company’s quint and tower ladder were not damaged.

According to “The Daily Voice,” the driver claimed that his brakes had failed. Witnesses told police that they observed the vehicle speeding just before the crash.

Local building officials were called to the scene, and the Ridgefield police are conducting an investigation.
