Six Firefighters Injured at Waterbury (CT) Fire

Waterbury officials say six city firefighters were injured battling a house blaze, including three who were knocked to the ground and suffered minor burns during an explosion, reports The Associated Press.

Authorities say the other three firefighters suffered heat exhaustion fighting the fire Thursday morning and were brought to a hospital. All the firefighters are expected to recover.

Fire Chief David Martin says two of the three firefighters injured in the explosion are expected to return to duty next week.

Martin says firefighters were trying to get into the house when superheated gasses in the attic exploded. He says the roof was blown about four feet up into the air and landed back atop the house.

No one was home at the time of the fire. The cause is under investigation.
