A police officer who served as a volunteer firefighter and an assistant fire chief rescued a wheelchair-bound man from a fire in Jackson, New Jersey.
According to a report in the Asbury Park Press (http://on.app.com/1qEhUn0), the fire was called in about 4 a.m. this morning. An adult female and a 7-year-old girl escaped the fire, however the man, 43, was trapped in a first-floor bedroom.
Police Probe Numerous Fires in Jackson (NJ)
Jackson Police Officer Anthony Riso entered the bedroom through a window police had broken out and found the man, but couldn’t move him because of the conditions. Riso exited, and Assistant Fire Chief Tim Carson provided him with breathing apparatus. The two then reentered the home and effected the rescue.
According to the report, Riso entered the home a third time to rescue a dog.
Two firefighters were briefly hospitalized for minor burns.
