Fire Prevention Week this year officially begins October 6, and firefighters with Ocala (FL) Fire Rescue plan on visiting dozens of schools this month. During educational tours, firefighters teach children about the importance of having a home escape plan, knowing when it is appropriate, what phone number to call in an emergency, and offer tips to prevent fires.
Fire Prevention Week is held annually in October in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire which occurred in 1871.
In the photo above, firefighter Chris Hickman teaches children at Happy Hearts school today not to be afraid of firefighters wearing fire gear.
