NJ Fire Lieutenant Dies While Responding to Hazmat Incident

The U.S. Fire Administration released a notice on the death of a New Jersey fire lieutenant who died while getting ready to respond to a hazmat call.

On Friday, August 27, 2021, Lieutenant Donald J. Trout of the Middlesex County Hazardous Materials Unit was responding to a tractor trailer carrying hazardous materials that overturned and crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike at Interchange 8A.

While getting ready to leave the station, Lieutenant Trout suffered a medical emergency.  He was immediately transported to the local hospital where he passed away.

Lieutenant Trout was 53 years old.
