Annual Memorial Service for MD Fire and Rescue Personnel This Weekend

The Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial Foundation is honored to invite the public and media to attend the annual Memorial Service for Fire and Rescue personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the citizens of Maryland. The service will be on Sunday, June 6, 2010 at 2 PM at the Maryland Emergency Services Memorial Park, Calvert Street, Annapolis.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of the event and the first year when the dtate has not suffered a single fire, rescue, or EMS responder line of duty death— truly a milestone.

Mr. Stan Stovall of WBAL Channel 11 News will serve as the Master of Ceremonies and Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr., President of the Maryland Senate will be the keynote speaker.

“We are truly honored that President Miller is able to serve as our keynote speaker, lending his considerable position to the importance of this event,” said President Gene Worthington in announcing the service. “We are also heartened that no new names are being added to the wall this year. We made a commitment to always remember our fallen heroes and this year provides us with the unique opportunity to keep that promise.”

The Maryland Fire-Rescue Memorial is a commemorative park for those who have died in the line of duty. Originally conceived by Fire Chief Don Mooney, the sculpture in the park allows reflection on the actions taken by our firefighters and rescue personnel when they were called to duty by the communities they served. In addition, a circular wall etched with the names of more than 400 individuals from across the state, inviting visitors and families to draw close together. The sculptor is Mr. Rodney Carroll of Baltimore, Maryland. Additional information is available at www.mdfirerescuehero.org .

Members of the public, emergency services organizations and the media are cordially invited to attend the June 6, 2010, service.
