Massachusetts Firefighter Suffers Heart Attack During Rescue

A Springfield (MA) firefighter suffered a heart attack this morning after rescuing a man from an apartment fire at an elderly housing complex on Roosevelt Ave. Springfield fire officials tell NECN that a man inside the apartment sparked the blaze when he lit a cigarette while using an oxygen tank, reports NECN (http://bit.ly/1xDZ3Pd)

The firefighter gave the victim his oxygen mask and carried him down six flights of stairs. As they exited the building, the firefighter collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Both men were transported to Bay State Medical Center. The firefighter is in stable condition.The other victim suffered burns on the left side of his body.
