An errant charter bus, carrying students home from a trip to Europe, slammed into the Eagle Avenue overpass of the Southern State parkway in Lakeview, New York, on Sunday evening, April 8.

The roof of the bus was crushed as the bus plowed under the low clearance bridge on Long Island. Debris from the crash covered the roadway for about 200 feet.

Miraculously, only two of the 44 people on board suffered serious injuries. Multiple emergency agencies responded to the mass-casualty incident, with the Lakeview Fire Department taking command.

The New York State police commended firefighters and EMS personnel who operated at the site.
