Knoxville (TN) Rescue Squad Performs Vehicle Extrication

On Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2014, Knox County (TN) E-911 dispatchers received calls reporting a single-vehicle rollover injury crash.

The incident occurred in the Powell community just off of Emory Rd near I-75.

Personnel from the Knoxville Rescue Squad (KVERS) and Rural/Metro Fire/EMS (RMFD) were dispatched to the scene. Both departments serve the metropolitan Knoxville area.

The rescue assignment consisted of of KVERS Rescue-124, Rural/Metro Engine-231, and Medic-701. RS-114, RS-1932 and EMS-500 were also on the card. The Knox County Sheriff was the law enforcement agency.

Arriving companies found a 4-door SUV rolled on its top in a drainage ditch. The was a single female occupant was trapped inside the vehicle.

Knoxville Rescue Squad 124 arrived on scene and began rescue operations. They first stabilized the SUV with marquee jacks and then went to work with a combination hydraulic tool.

Within 12 minutes of arrival KVERS 124 had gained access to the victim and she was removed for treatment. She suffered relatively minor injuries considering the nature. The driver was packaged for transport and taken to a nearby emergency department.

The Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad provides numerous services to the citizens of Knox County. In addition to vehicle rescue, they preform water rescue and dive services, collapse, trench, S&R, confined space and vertical teams.

KVERS operates a variety of apparatus strategically located in four station located throughout Knox County.
