At 3:26 p.m. on Tuesday November 25, 2014, the Gastonia Fire Department received a dispatch of a reported structure fire at: 1327 Jay Avenue in Gastonia, North Carolina.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to a one-story residential structure, with heavy smoke and flames coming from the dwelling.
Firefighters entered the structure and found the occupant of the home, an elderly female, unconscious inside the structure. Firefighters rescued the woman by bringing her out of a window and immediately administered life support.
Gastonia firefighters extinguished the flames in approximately 20 minutes.
The occupant of the home was transported by Gaston Emergency Medical Services to Caromont Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The victim was then transported by air ambulance to the Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The condition of the patient is not known at this time.
A total of 25 personnel and five apparatus worked the call.
No injuries to firefighters were reported.
The home sustained approximately $40,000 in damages due to the fire, and is a total loss.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Gastonia Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office.
