Firefighters went through a wall to rescue a “large patient” trapped during an elevator rescue in New York City, according to the New York Post.
The Post noted that Fire Department of New York (FDNY) crews responded to a call for a person trapped between the first and second floors of a building in East Harlem around 4 p.m. It took about two hours for FDNY firefighters to extract him through a hole about the size of a 42-inch flat-screen TV, the report said.
The patient was reportedly traveling down from the 10th floor with a smaller man and a washing machine, and this apparently triggered the elevator’s 1,000-pound limit. The elevator’s location in a blind shaft added to the complexity of the rescue for FDNY crews.
