Diablo Introduces Reciprocating Blade for Vehicle Extrication

Diablo Tools, a premier manufacturer of superior cutting tools for construction professionals and remodelers, introduces “The Game Changer,” a carbide-tipped metal cutting reciprocating blade that offers first responders the ability to cut high strength alloys in vehicle extrication.

During 2006 to 2008, high strength alloys (otherwise known as advanced steels “boron”) started to become prevalent in high-end vehicles to allow automobile manufacturers to meet Federal motor vehicle safety standards and to increase fuel efficiency for the consumer. Today, it is used in most makes and models of motor vehicles. These advanced steels provide challenges to first responders in their ability to effectively make a substantial opening with rescue tools for motorist removal.

FireRescue Magazine published an article, “Cutting Advanced Steel,” stating that: “Responders have searched for a solution to this problem for several years and have tested a variety of tools. Realistically, reciprocating saws could provide the most suitable option, but the weak link has consistently been the blades… no blades have been any more successful than basically scratching the surface before completely destroying the teeth.”

Until now… the “Cutting Advanced Steel” article continues by stating, “the new Diablo carbide-tipped metal cutting reciprocating blade is a cost-effective solution to cutting advanced steel.”

“These blades are truly changing the game of metal cutting,” says Russell Kohl, President/CEO. “The Game Changer elevates cutting performance and expands new applications that reciprocating blades have not been able to cut before. In addition to providing a solution for the construction professional and tradesman, these blades are now providing a premium and reliable performance solution for first responders – solution that has not been offered before.”

“As manufacturing technologies and applications increase, responders are more likely to encounter advanced steels during extrication incidents and other specific applications,” states Les Baker, a 15- year veteran fire service engineer with the City of Charleston (S.C.) Fire Department and member of the Darlington County Extrication Team. “Hydraulic cutters will continue to be the most prevalent option to sever these parts, but now there is another option in the form of a reciprocating saw with a carbide- tipped heavy metal cutting blade.”

“Being able to extract an accident victim faster equates quite literally to saving more lives,” Kohl added. “We are proud that our carbide-tipped metal cutting recip blades are able to provide an additional solution to assist first responders.”
