CT Firefighters Rescue Dog That Fell Through Ice

Firefighters rescued a golden retriever that had fallen through ice into a frigid pond Wednesday in Westport, Connecticut.

Someone saw the dog fall in and called 911, which brought firefighters to the scene. But by the time firefighters arrived, the dog had stopped moving, according to a report from WABC (http://bit.ly/15Teg0v).

“The dog was just clinging to the edge of the ice,” Firefighter Toby Ostapchuk said. “I was trying to make sure the dog knew I was trying to help him.”

Firefighters saved the 100-pound animal by pulling him to the edge of the freezing cold pond and then lifting him out.
