>> E-ONE received a two-year contract with the Department of National Defense (DND) Canada to provide the Department with 24 4×4 Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting vehicles. The deal also included six Cyclone II top-mount enclosed custom pumpers featuring E-ONE’s cold weather package. Up to six more pumpers may be ordered during the two-year period of the contract. This is not the first time Canada’s DND has used E-ONE’s services-DND Canada has purchased a total of 48 E-ONE trucks during the past five years. www.e-one.com.

>> FIREMAN’S ASSOCIATION OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK won the People’s Telly award for its “Is There a FIRE In You?” campaign, which aims to boost the number of volunteer firefighters and emergency responders throughout the state of New York. The national advertising industry award uses judges and public voting to choose the best creative campaigns each year. “Is There a FIRE In You” features actual volunteer firefighters demonstrating the dual role many volunteer responders play-working or attending college by day and firefighting by night. The campaign is comprised of broadcast, cable, cinema, digital, and social media advertisements and was launched in 2012 to recruit more than 15,000 volunteer firefighters and EMS personal across the state during the award’s three-year period. www.fasny.com>. www.fasny.com.

>> FIRE-DEX was one of 101 Northeast Ohio mid-sized companies to receive the 2013 Leading EDGE Award. The award was established to recognize value-creating, mid-sized businesses in Ohio. FIRE-DEX has received the award multiple times since the award’s inception seven years ago. Qualifying companies operate within Northeast Ohio’s 17 counties and generate revenues up to $750 million, a portion of which must be outside the region. Honored companies were identified by the value they create in the regional economy based on a sum of their earnings before interest and taxes and by the total taxable compensation for all Northeast Ohio-based employees. www.firedex.com.

>> UNDERWRITERS LABORATORIES established the Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FSRI) to collaborate with fire departments and agencies around the world to create research and training programs focused on changing the dynamics of residential, commercial, and industrial fires. FSRI features experienced professionals and has access to UL’s infrastructure, equipment, and knowledge of the fire industry. FSRI hopes to increase firefighter knowledge, ultimately reducing injuries and deaths in the fire service and communities across America. www.ulfirefightersafety.com.

>> THE CONGRESSIONAL FIRE SERIVICES INSTITUTE and NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION awarded their Firefighter Service Safety Leadership Award to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue (Tigard, Oregon), Office of the Oregon Fire Marshal, and Governor’s Fire Service Policy Council for their collective work to improve firefighter health and safety. The organizations were honored for the joint research project, “A Study on Chemicals Found in the Overhaul Phase of Structure Fires Using Advanced Portable Air Monitoring Available for Chemical Speciation.” The project identified airborne hazards present after a fire was extinguished. The findings provided new information on previously undocumented toxic chemicals that can pose serious health risks to firefighters and recommended techniques to offset the effects of smoke exposure. www.firehero.org.
