Members of Australia’s Werribee Fire Brigade Road Rescue crew were jubilant when it was announced on July 27, 2010, that they were the Australian Road Rescue Organisation (ARRO) 2010 Australasian Rescue Champions.
Not only did the team win the Australasian title, they also took out the awards for Best Medical Team and Best Team Leader.
CFA Acting Chief Officer Steve Warrington attended the awards and says that the result is a wonderful reflection on the hard work put in by the team and that their colleagues are really proud of their efforts.
“I was proud to be there.” he says. “The guys have done CFA proud, it’s an exciting moment for the Werribee team and CFA,” he says. “These guys should be proud of what they have achieved, just as CFA is proud of their hard work, initiative and dedication that has led them to being the top rescue team in Australasia,” Steve says.
Last Friday the team also took out the 2010 ARRO State Championships.
The Werribee team have represented the CFA at a national level for the last nine years. The team comprises: Robby Mitchell – rescue team commander, Michael Wells – rescue team medic (and Werribee Fire Brigade captain), Lino Zulian, Adrian Kendall, Phillip Menzies and Mark Mummery. Now they are looking forward to defending their titles and competing in the 2011 World Championships which will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand.
