  • Hastings (NE) Fire Rescue replaced a smaller truck with this RESCUE 1 unit, which responds to medical calls, extrications, and rope rescues. It is also used to provide rehab and lighting as well, according to Captain Craig Oswald. It has enhanced air supply capability and provides quick rescue tool deployment.

  • The Griswold (CT) Fire Department responds its MARION BODY rescue truck to many highway accidents. Deputy Chief Steve Merchant Jr. explains that it has a pump for self-sufficiency when a protective stream is needed, which eliminates the need for a pumper on initial response.

  • The Fuquay-Varina (NC) Fire Department purchased its PIERCE platform quint to protect the main business district, which includes numerous commercial and heavy industrial structures, according to Lieutenant Bill Grubbs. The jurisdiction is a mix of urban, suburban, and rural areas.

  • The Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company in Manchester Township, New Jersey, designed its EMERGENCY ONE rescue pumper for fast attack and rescue, according to Chief Craig Lietz. The unit is also first out to motor vehicle accidents and carbon monoxide alarms.

  • The Cattle Creek (SC) Fire Department protects a rural residential area with chicken, pork, and agricultural producers. Chief Ralph Reeves Jr. explains that this LUVERNE (CRIMSON) pumper has a topmount pump panel for better visibility, a large water tank, and multiple preconnects for different applications.

  • The Exeter Township Fire Department in Maybee, Michigan, designed its CENTRAL STATES pumper (one of two), with large tank to protect a rural community. The units have front intake for use with portable tanks, roll-up doors for better accessibility on narrow roads, and extra lighting for accident scenes, according to Chief Donald Sweeney.

  • The Felton (CA) Fire Protection District designed its KME pumper with a short wheelbase and 25-foot overall length to maneuver the Santa Cruz Mountains’ narrow and serpentine roads, reports Chief Ron Rickabaugh. The roll-up doors offer better equipment access on these roads.

  • The Merchantville (NJ) Fire Department designed this METZ ladder truck with a short wheelbase and overall length, according to Deputy Chief John Grant.

  • The Waldorf (MD) Volunteer Fire Department purchased this AMERICAN LAFRANCE tiller aerial ladder truck for maneuverability in a jurisdiction with narrow streets, cul-de-sacs, and busy traffic, according to Chief Dan Stevens. It also provides additional storage space and more ground ladders.
