Special hazards and squad truck delivered to the Providence, R.I., Fire Department is on a Mack R model chassis with a 410-hp Maxidine diesel engine and a body by American Modular Body Corporation. The conversion was done by Ranger Emergency Vehicles. Including special equipment for haz-mat incidents, the vehicle weighs 26,000 pounds. Overall height is 10 feet 8 inches. The body is 16 feet long and the overall length is 27 feet.

The RT-1 emergency/rescue vehicle from Hurst Inc. and Reading Body Works Inc. has storage compartments built into the side walls of the body. Two are 24 inches deep for generators and compressors and are slide-mounted so the units can be pulled out for easy access. All other compartments are 20 inches deep. An alternate version, the hazardous materials rescue system, is fitted with special gear for handling spills or accidents involving dangerous substances.

The Darien, Conn., Fire Department has recently taken delivery of this Saulsbury heavy-duty rescue truck. Mounted on a Ford C-8000 chassis, the unit is powered by a 210-hp Caterpillar 3208 diesel with an Allison MT-635 automatic transmission. The truck features a 12.5-kw diesel generator with remote start from the cab; eight quartz lights, two mounted on each side; two electric reels with 250 feet of cable; five roll-out trays; compartment under a full-length bench seat and an 8000-pound electric winch recessed under the front bumper.
