The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has promoted Robert Solomon, P.E. to assistant vice president, building and life safety codes. He has served as the NFPA's chief building fire protection engineer since 1995 and will continue to manage the NFPA's building fire protection and life safety department and the technical development of related codes.
FIREFIGHTER NEW HAS RIGHTS

PYRAMIDAL ROOFS
A pyramidal roof support is made up of short light-steel sections in a space frame, a three-dimensional truss. If fire is in the roof, the lightweight steel sections will become distorted. Undesigned torsional forces will be generated in all directions; the effect on the total roof will be unpredictable.

It's Saturday afternoon. I am driving east on Interstate 64 with Louisville, Kentucky, in my rearview mirror. Two hours ago, my four colleagues from Chesterfield (VA) Fire and EMS and I left the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) in Indian-apolis; in 10 hours, we will be back in Chesterfield, Virginia.
