Interstate Engineering of Dallas, Texas, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is voluntarily recalling some 40,000 heat detectors sold under the following private label brand names: MasterGuard, model MG-50/70; Responsive, model TR170; and Rescue II, model R-50FT. The devices can fail to alarm or alarm for a shorter period than intended when fire is present. The detectors are mechanical and do not use batteries or electricity.

House Subcommittee approves bill to allow surplus property transfers

The House of Representatives Subcommittee on Government Management, Information and Technology approved by voice vote H.R. 1442. The measure would allow the federal government to transfer surplus federal property to local law enforcement and fire and rescue authorities for use as training facilities. The Justice Department has the authority to make such transfers until the end of this year. The proposed bill would extend that authority indefinitely.
