Approximately 8621 civilians died in 1978 as a result of fires in the United States, according to estimates released by the National Fire Protection Association. Most of the deaths, 6768 or 78.5 percent, occurred in residential dwellings.

Plastics Warehouse Fire Destroys 3 Other Buildings in Trenton, N.J.

Fire that took possession of a 700 X 75-foot, one-story plastics warehouse became the second largest fire in the history of Trenton, N. J., as it went on to destroy three more industrial buildings. When the alarm for the industrial complex was transmitted at 8:09 p.m. last March 1, the first alarm companies had been operating for more than an hour at an all-hands fire at the Garden State Wreath Company.

The Thursday through Sunday sessions at Stouffer’s Denver Inn will cover both the training of company officers and definitions of their responsibilities.

TV Fire Ruling Aborted

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has dropped its proceedings to develop a standard on fire safety of television sets. The commission explained on July 27 that tests have shown that it is “extremely difficult to sustain TV cabinet fires in laboratory situations.” The commission also noted that “an apparent decline in TV fire incidents” is continuing.

Elkhart Brass Mfg. Co., Inc., recently introduced the SM-20F Select-O-Matic nozzle for 1 1/2 and 1 3/4-inch hose. The new nozzle weighs 4.75 pounds and features Elk-O-Lite construction. It can flow 60 to 200 gpm. Interchangeable teeth provide two types of spray: the fixed teeth provide a solid, dense fog cone, while the spinning teeth provide a smooth, wide water curtain.
