Walt Rainer has joined the Suspended Maneuvering Systems Team at McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Company of St. Louis. In his new position, Rainer will concentrate on the marketing aspects of the SMS Program. Prior to joining the company, Rainer had been vice president of marketing for American LaFrance for the past 15 years.

Every officer should know what stretching a line into a building means in terms of time and manpower. Time is an important factor in developing fireground strategy because the fireground commander has to plan his strategy so that the line is in an effective position after the fire has extended during the time it took to stretch the line.

Tremendous Is Word for Texas A&M Fire School

Tremendous—as in Texas—is the one word that describes the 49th Annual Texas Firemen’s Training School. More than 1800 students participated in training with some 450 instructors at the 65-acre Brayton Firemen Training Field on the Texas A&M University campus at College Station last July 23-28.

NFPCA Transfer Looks Good

Back in January of 1975, when the National Fire Prevention and Control Administration was gearing up, we made a guess that the National Fire Academy would wind up in or near the nation’s capital. And it almost did—with the purchase of Marjorie Webster College. But the wheels of bureaucracy grind slowly and the college still stands empty, untouched and unused. Latest gossip out of Washington has it that the college will be sold by the federal government.
