One Arizona fire chief is defending his department’s decision not to respond to a structure fire in a neighboring area that doesn’t have fire service. The house that burned was in Picacho, three miles away from an Eloy Fire District station.
“Not our problem. Sorry, but you’re not in the district you’re not our problem,” Eloy Fire Chief Coy Amerson reportedly said on a dispatch tape, according to a report on tucsonnewsnow.com (http://bit.ly/Y3v1Rg). The house that burned was in Picacho, three miles away from an Eloy Fire District station. The dispatcher also tried calling other firefighters, but it was the farthest department, Avra Valley Fire, that ended up responding–a 30 mile drive.
