Cardiovascular and Chemical Exposure Project, Part 1

Denise Smith during the studies

The 2016 Cardiovascular and Chemical Exposure Project was an IFSI (Illinois Fire Services Institute) Research-UL FSRI-NIOSH collaborative project investigating fire service chemical and cardiovascular exposures.

The project will include 24 firefighters to participate in three separate scenarios from June 25 through June 30, 2016. It builds on last summer’s experiments, where data was collected from scenarios using common household furnishings. There was significant interest in comparing this data set to exposures from typical live fire training scenarios.

In the first part of this presentation, view firsthand footage of the studies. Watch Part 2, a discussion of the results, HERE.
