A worker was injured in what fire officials described as a “gas explosion” at a construction site on the Lynnway Monday morning.

The explosion happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at 626 Lynnway, where a private contracting company was doing demolition work, Lt. Dennis Ring, a spokesman for the Lynn Fire Department, said.

One person hurt in the explosion was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The construction worker was cutting a pipe when the explosion occurred, Ring said.

No other workers at the site were injured and the building itself was not damaged, Ring said. The building will remain vacant for “the time being” while an investigation takes place.

The property is being “refabricated” for other purposes, according to Ring.
