West Virginia Firefighter Dies in Line of Duty

A flag flies at half-staff at the McMechen Volunteer Fire Department as fellow firefighters remember one of their own who died in the line of duty, firefighter Garry Rose, reports wtov9.com (http://bit.ly/1DR1or6)

“Firefighter Garry Rose was on an EMS call. He was transporting a patient to Ohio Valley Medical Center. He was wheeling the patient through the doors of the ER and unfortunately collapsed inside of the emergency room,” said Fire Chief Mark Martin.

Shortly after collapsing, Rose, 67, was pronounced dead. The cause is believed to be a heart attack.

“He would go out of his way to help you, anyone, that was just the kind of person he was and he will be greatly and sadly missed here every day,” said Martin.

Rose’s service with the McMechen volunteer fire department extends over three decades and reaches far beyond the fire department.

McMechen mayor, Gregg Wolfe says Rose’s passing will be a great loss for the entire town.
