Syracuse, N.Y. — Two people were hospitalized and one rescued after a house fire on the West Side of Syracuse Wednesday morning, firefighters said.
At 1 a.m. firefighters were called to 923 Park Ave., for a reported fire in the basement of a two-and-a-half-story home, firefighters said. There was a report of a person trapped in the home, firefighters said.
Firefighters started to extinguish the fire and searched inside. A semi-conscious person was found and rescued, firefighters said. The person was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries from smoke inhalation, firefighters said.
Another person who managed to escape was also taken to a hospital, firefighters said.
The fire was declared out after 100 minutes, firefighters said. More than an hour was spent extinguishing “hot spots” or small pockets of fire, firefighters said. A hole was cut in the roof to help ventilate the home, firefighters said.
Six people lost their homes in the fire, firefighters said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
