Aug. 4—MANCHESTER — Town officials said that two firefighters were injured at a Oak Street residence fire caused by a lightning strike Saturday night.

The fire was one of several incidents around the state caused by Saturday’s storms, which left thousands without power. In addition, a Southington residence also caught on fire Friday following a lightning strike.

At around 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, the Manchester Fire Department said firefighters responded to the fire in the 100-block within three minutes of the initial call reporting the flames. The department added that the flames were on the second floor, but began spreading to the attic.

“Companies initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, operating multiple handlines, performing searches on all floors and vented the roof, ultimately bringing the fire under control within approximately 30 minutes,” the department said in a Facebook post.

The department said that other than the two injured firefighters, no one else was injured in the blaze. One of the two injured firefighters was transported to an area hospital for treatment, the agency added.

Four residents of the home are now displaced as the building has been deemed uninhabitable, fire officials said. The residents are being aided by the Red Cross, they said.

The department said that East Hartford responded to the fire and other surrounding departments provided “jurisdictional coverage” during the fire.
