Two Firefighters Hurt Battling Buffalo (NY) Structure Fire

Buffalo (NY) firefighters with the 7th Battalion 1st Platoon were called out to battle a structure fire at 12 Grote St. in Buffalo’s Black Rock Section early Monday morning, December 12, 2016. Companies were initially dispatched to a different address on Grote St.

Firefighters used three 1 3/4-inch and two 2 1/2-inch handlines along with two tower ladders to bring the fire under control. The fire, which went to two alarms plus two additional trucks, spread to 203 and 205 Military Rd. Four adults and one child were helped out by the Red Cross. 12 Grote was a large, vacant, 2 1/2-story frame dwelling. 205 Military Rd. was a large 2 1/2-frame dwelling and housed offices for Neighborhood Housing Services, while 205 Military Rd. was a community center and rental hall.

Two firefighters were injured in the fire, the cause of which is under investigation. Division Chief Peter Kertzie was in command.
