Two Firefighters Among Five Saved by Fallen FDNY Member’s Organ Donation

According to a report from FOX News, fallen Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Firefighter William “Billy” Moon, who was fatally injured while preparing for a training exercise on December 12, 2022, has saved the lives of five people through organ donation, two of which are fellow FDNY members.

Moon, a 21-year FDNY veteran, died after falling 20 feet at his Brooklyn fire station, leaving him with a severe head injury. Moon’s heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys were donated to five people in need.

Among those in need was FDNY Lieutenant Terrence Jordan, 64. Jordan, who developed a 9/11-related illness after responding to the World Trade Center attacks, needed new lungs from end-stage COPD and emphysema, and required supplemental oxygen 24 hours a day. He is now breathing on his own. Jordan called the donation “a Christmas miracle.”

Jordan, a father of seven and grandfather of nine, said he hopes to meet Moon’s family one day to thank them.

On Tuesday, Moon’s widow, Kristina, talked to probationary firefighters at the FDNY Fire Academy about his death and the importance of organ donation. She said that, despite the way things were going with his deteriorating health, she knew his organs would save others, something Moon believed in.

Moon, 47, left behind his wife and two young daughters. The FDNY said his legacy of heroism will live on and impact the next generation of firefighters.
