Two Dead, Including Girl, 9, and Three Critical in DE House Fire

According to a report from WPVI, a nine-year-old girl and a 42-year-old woman died after a fire erupted in a two-story home just after 12 p.m. in Little Creek, Delaware. Three others are now listed as being in critical condition.

The response occurred just across the street from the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Company (LCVFC) on the 300 block of Main Street. LCVFC Chief Michael Scott Bundek said firefighters responded within one minute of getting the call, which included reports of trapped victims inside the home.

LCVFC crews found the nine-year-old as well as two other victims. Bundek said one person jumped out a second-floor window to escape the flames before firefighters arrived.

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal said a total of five victims were taken to Bayhealth Hospital-Kent Campus in Dover for smoke inhalation and burns. The girl and woman died at the hospital, and that two of the victims are expected to be transferred to the Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania, the fire marshal said.

Their names have not been released, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
