Two Dead in Bronx (NY) Apartment Fire

According to a report from ABC7, two people died after a fire erupted in an apartment building in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, New York, early Wednesday morning.

Fire Department of New York (FDNY) officials said crews were dispatched just after 5:30 a.m. to the building located near the intersection of East 242nd Street and Barnes Avenue. The fire is believed to have started on the top floor of the five-story building.

Overhead footage showed a large hole in the in the roof toward the rear of the burning building. On arrival, FDNY crews began roof operations through the flames and smoke.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and a second was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. Their identities have not been released.

In addition, five FDNY members were examined for possible injuries on scene, although there is no word on their conditions.
