Transformer Explosion Ignites Three-Alarm Fire in MA

According to a report from WHDH, an electrical transformer exploded at around 6 p.m. Monday in Lexington, Massachusetts, sparking a three-alarm fire at an Eversource substation on Massachusetts Avenue.

Lexington Fire Department (LFD) crews responded to the scene quickly, working diligently to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby structures.

LFD Chief Derek Sencabaugh said that the volume of fire they encountered usually sets off one or two alarms, but they eventually called for three to keep firefighters from becoming “overheated” as they worked in the 90°F heat.

No injuries have been reported, and the fire was successfully extinguished.

Fire officials said they have opened an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Eversource said there were no power outages associated with the incident.
