According to a report from KSTP, one of the four children pulled from a Cannon Falls, Minnesota, apartment fire last Wednesday died from smoke inhalation on Friday. The a 10-month-old baby girl was identified as Seqouyah Kelleymae Johnson.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said two other children, thought to be between one and two years old, and another seven-year-old child arrived at the hospital Wednesday with their mother. Cannon Falls Police Chief Jeff McCormick said the one- and two-year-olds were in critical condition on arrival at the hospital, and the mother’s injury was described as “pretty significant.”
The updated conditions of the remaining family members have not yet been released.
First responders were dispatched to the Cannon Valley Apartments complex early Wednesday afternoon. On arrival, a woman approached officers saying her children were still inside the home, and she suffered a cut injury attempting to get them out.
After officers started breaking windows, McCormick said two kids were seen in the living room area. They were taken out to waiting ambulances as fire crews arrived and began extinguishing the fire. A third child was then found inside and removed.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
