Two Burned in Knoxville (TN) Meth Lab Explosion

Knoxville (TN) fire apparatus at the scene of a suspected meth lab explosion.

Knoxville (TN) police and firefighters responded to a meth lab explosion Tuesday evening, officials said.

According to a release from the police department, at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers responded to Cooper Street near Bernard Avenue after being notified two people had been burned in a fire.

During the investigation it was determined a male a male and female were attempting to manufacture meth when something exploded and set both of them on fire. Both were severely burned to the extent that they were transported to UT Medical Center by EMS after being decontaminated by the Knoxville Fire Department. The male was later transported to the Vanderbilt Hospital burn unit for additional treatment.

The female was placed into custody after being released from UT Medical Center. She has been charged with Initiation of a process intended to result in the manufacture of meth. She also had a violation of probation warrant out of Hamblen County on file for her arrest from a previous possession of marijuana arrest. The male will be charged once he has been treated and released from Vanderbilt.
