TN Child Dies in Fireworks Explosion

Nashville (TN) — A 12-year-old died at a Nashville hospital Sunday night after a firework exploded while he was holding it, according to police.

The child was playing with a tube, mortar-style firework when it went off at about 10:30 p.m. on Lewis Street, said Metro Police Captain Jason Starling.

The child was taken by private vehicle to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where he died, Starling said.
