TIME GOES BY QUICKLY

EDITOR’S OPINION

Hi —again. This is the 80th time that we have gotten together in this small space in the front of the book. I enjoy this space I’m given every month, though sometimes it’s difficult to think of something to say. It gives me a chance to feel that I’m still a small part of what you do, that which I love so much and miss so dearly every day.

This space also gives me a chance to get some things off my chest and solicit dialogue and communication from you. It usually focuses on taking a stand, having an opinion, criticizing, giving information, or just plain “stirring the pot.” Some of what we share here is sad, some fun, some upsetting, some “on the money,” and some dead wrong, but always it’s my opinion —in the hopes of stimulating yours.

Every once in a while I like to pause to count and share what I think are my blessings. Besides, I don’t want the reputation of constantly stirring that mythical pot.

My blessings this time are you. Last year I shared hundreds of thousands of instructional and dialogue hours with thousands of you in your states and stations. It is my personal high, my connection with the profession I love so much. And I thank you for that.

This year I’ve spent personal time with more than 5,500 of you and the schedule looks like even more. Your drive for training and my goal of providing as much support for that desire as I can is paramount from my seat here at the magazine.

Thanks for helping me achieve that, thanks for giving me your valuable time, thanks for your interaction and involvement. I always count myself luckier than you at the end of courses and seminars because of two things: First, I always take away more from you at our meetings than I leave with you. Second, I get a chance to gain many friends and you only gain one.

God bless and keep you safe.
