According to a report from KARE, three people were hospitalized after being rescued from a raging fire at the Woodhaven Apartments complex on Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tuesday night.
Minneapolis Fire Department (MFD) crews responded just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving several reports of smoke emanating from the three-story structure. On arrival, smoke and flames were seen coming from the building’s southeast side. A car in the parking lot also became engulfed.
MFD officials said two of those rescued were taken off their balconies, while another resident was pulled out of smoke-filled hallway. All three were in stable condition before being transported to a local hospital.
Three MFD members were treated for overexertion and another for a dislocated thumb. Several animals were also rescued, although officials said a cat perished in the fire.
MFD firefighters fought the flames for several hours before crews made an extinguishment. Officials said the fire extended to all three floors and damaged dozens of units. As many as 30 apartments have been deemed uninhabitable because of the damage, according to fire officials.
The MFD said the building did not have a sprinkler system, and the standpipes malfunctioned. Residents not impacted by the fire were allowed back into their homes early Wednesday morning.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
