A house fire Monday evening in Fort Worth trapped three firefighters upstairs and forced two of them to jump out of a window to escape the flames, the department said.

The three firefighters were taken to a hospital, where one remained as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Fort Worth Fire Department spokesperson Craig Trojacek.

Trojacek said firefighters were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Cannon Street just before 6 p.m. and arrived to find a two-story house engulfed in flames.

Several firefighters entered the home, Trojacek said. While three firefighters were on the second floor, the fire had a “drastic change,” leaving them trapped upstairs.

Trojacek said two of the firefighters bailed out of a window and onto a carport roof adjacent to the window. Due to damage the carport roof sustained in the fire, one firefighter fell through it, but the other was able to make it to a ladder and climb down, Trojacek said. The third firefighter later escaped the blaze by making his way to the window and down the ladder, Trojacek said.

All three firefighters were taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, according to a department Facebook post. Two were released Monday night, while the third firefighter remained in the hospital Tuesday in stable condition, Trojacek said.

According to the Facebook post, one resident was displaced by the fire, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
