The National Volunteer Fire Council named WALTER SMITTLE III of West Virginia Firefighter of the Year. He is a charter member of the West Virginia Society of Fire Service Instructors and serves on the advisory board for the West Virginia University Fire Service Extension. He is a member the West Virginia State Firemen?s Association and the International Association of Arson Investigators and a lifetime member of the Fire Marshal?s Association of North America. He has served on several committees for the National Fire Protection Association and with the Paden City and Ripley volunteer departments.
