This self-instruction workbook reviews basic concepts and terms covered in the “Essentials of Fire Fighting,” IFSTA 200. Multiple choice, matching, and fill-in questions are designed to aid in understanding material presented in IFSTA 200. The authors stress that the guide is not a substitute for the text, which covers the various subjects in detail.
The guide is complete with the correct answers.

This text focuses on the use of water as an extinguishing agent. The basic characteristics of water are examined before the authors discuss types of fire streams, nozzle designs and various fog streams.
A large portion of the book is devoted to hydraulic calculations, as well as the metric system. Mathematical exercises are included, complete with answers.
The material in each chapter is preceded by references to the pertinent sections of NFPA Standards 1001 (fire fighter qualifications) and 1002 (apparatus driver/operator qualifications).
