Firefighter, Worker Killed in Tarrytown, New York

A volunteer firefighter was killed yesterday after trying to rescue a utility worker from a manhole filled with toxic fumes in Tarrytown, New York, according to news reports. The victims were identified as Anthony Ruggiero, a foreman at the Tarrytown Public Works Department (who was also a volunteer firefighter), and Firefighter John Kelly. They were responding to a reported sewer backup when they were overcome by fumes.
