SPRINGFIELD — The City Council again voted to purchase two fire trucks at a cost of $3.2 million last week.

The vote was a formality that put the purchases on the city’s capital improvement list, which was not done when the City Council originally voted in November to purchase the two pieces of equipment, said Cathy Buono, chief finance officer for the city.

She called it a “housekeeping correction,” but it was needed so the city could order the two vehicles, which are custom-made. The council voted 12-0 to order the vehicles.

It now takes between 30 and 40 months between the time a large vehicle like a fire truck is ordered and when it is delivered, mainly because of supply chain delays, she said.
