Nash County (NC) firefighters responded to a fast-moving fire in Spring Hope on Thanksgiving Eve. Shortly before 7 p.m. on November 22, 2017, Nash County 911 Center were receiving numerous calls for a working dwelling fire on Green Road.  Fire departments from Station 6 Spring Hope, Station 17 Momeyer, and Station 19 Stanhope were dispatched along with EMS units.

First-arriving engine companies reported that they had a large, brick, one-story home house fully involved. Fire was through the roof and crew went into service with 2 1/2- and 1 3/4-inch lines. There were no fire hydrants in the area. Three tanker units were placed in service, shuttling water a mile away from the fire.

“The fire had a good start on us and was fully involved on our arrival,” Spring Hope Assistant Fire Chief Jason Whitford said. “Firefighters using four 1 3/4 lines and one 2 1/2-inch line plus a deck gun on one of the pumpers.”

It took 40 firefighters more than 1 1/2 hours to control the fire as it was too dangerous to make an interior attack at any time.  The house was occupied but the residents were not at home at the time of the fire. Firefighters remained throughout the night, wetting down the hot spots. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation by the Nash County Fire Marshal Office. EMS units remained on the scene, and there were no injuries to the fire personnel.
