Sparkles Gets e-Mails

Welcome to the Kids Zone! Are you ready to have some fun?

For those of you that haven’t met me yet, my name is Sparkles. I love being a fire safety dog! I have a very big job, and I love helping keep boys and girls just like you safe.

I love all of the e-mails that I have been getting! Here’s a question from Zach, age 4: “Sparkles, do you get to ride on fire trucks?” That’s a great question, Zach, and the answer is, “Yes”! I love to ride on fire trucks when I go to do a fire safety presentation. It is one of my most favorite things to do!

As a matter of fact, Zach, below is a picture of me getting ready to go to a fire safety activity with my good friend, Firefighter Jim, in his big ladder truck! After Firefighter Dayna took this picture, Firefighter Jim buckled me in (safety first!), and we went to see the boys and girls that day. It was so much fun!

Thanks, Zach, for your really great question!

I love getting e-mails from boys and girls just like you! If you would like to ask me a question, just send me your question at sparkles@sparklesthefiresafetydog.com! I will be sure to answer it here on firelife.com!

Do you like games? You do? Then let’s play a guessing game. What does a firefighter’s helmet keep safe? If you said his head, you are right! Here’s a photo of me with Firefighter Jim. See his helmet?

Firefighter Jim’s helmet keeps him safe when he fights a fire.

I’m really excited about some new fire safety videos that just came out. Here is one of my favorites! Click on the picture to watch!

Want to know something really exciting? This month my name is on the cover of The American Dog magazine, and there is an article in there about me! How cool is that? You can go to the magazine’s Web site and read my story! And what is even more cool is that some of my very best dog friends are in there, too! There’s Frankie the Walk ‘n Roll Dog, Surf Dog Richochet, Rainbow Diamond, and Emma Zen! Check out the magazine to read all about my friends! They are all very pawsome!

And, speaking of cool, my new book, Sparkles Goes to Boston, won four awards! My tail is wagging so doggone fast! See the little gold thing on the cover of my book? That is called a “seal,” and I am so excited to have a seal on my book! That means that it is very special!

I love sharing good news with my friends! Do you have a story that you would like to share with me? Have you made an escape map with your family? Practiced your home fire drill? Made sure that the folks that you live with have tested your smoke alarm? If so, let me know about it! I will be sure to give you a shout out in my next column!

It’s time for a new coloring page. Ta da! Here it is!

Before I go, I would like to share this fire safety tip:

Remember, firefighters are your friends, and they are there to help you!

Well, that’s it for now. Until next time, practice fire safety every day!
