San Francisco Firefighters Battle Four-Alarm Fire

San Francisco (CA) firefighters responded to a signficant fire yesterday that went to four alarms and brought more than 100 members to the scene.

According to a release from the department, at 5:54 a.m. on August 1, 2023, San Francisco (CA) Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the intersection of Oak and Octavia. San Francisco Fire Department arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial dispatch and observed a building fully engulfed in fire.

This fire quickly grew to a fourth-alarm, bringing more than 140 firefighters and more than 40 fire apparatus to the scene. This fire at 300 Octavia St. extended to four additional buildings, causing damage that resulted in eight displacements.

No injuries were reported during this incident.

The fire is under investigation by the San Francisco Fire Department Fire Investigation Task Force. Firefighters were faced with intense heat that was hot enough to crack windows at a building across the street, scaffolding from the fire building, a fast-moving fire that could have resulted in a conflagration, a partial collapse of the fire building, and more. Firefighters went door to door ensuring those buildings affected were evacuated and safe.
