On Saturday March 11, 2017, at approximately 0215 hours, the Royal Oak (MI) Fire Department was dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at Minerva and Fourth St.

While en route, police reported on the scene with a working fire. Upon arrival of Engine 9-10, heavy smoke was showing from the dwelling. Interior fire attack was begun while crews preformed a primary search for a possible victim inside.

Command switched to defensive operations because of heavy fire conditions and concerns about structural integrity. Mutual aid was requested from Madison Heights and Ferndale fire departments. This fire was brought under control in approximately two hours. One victim was found with fatal injuries sustained from the fire.
