Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sept. 17, 2015, Rocky Mount (NC) firefighters were dispatched to the 400 Block of Arlington Street. The first-in company reported that they had a working fire in a two-story, tin-roofed home that had been converted into a duplex.
Heavy fire was located in the front room with an extension to the second-floor attic area. Two 1 3/4-inch lines were quickly placed in service. Heavy, dark smoke was coming from all sections of the building and an exterior attack was now being made, knocking down the bulk of the fire. This allowed the members to make an interior attack.on the fire.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to control the fast-spreading fire and another 10 minutes to place the fire under control. All occupants had exited the building before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on location for a few hours overhauling and hitting hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
