The Rochester (NY) Fire Department was called to 22 Santee St earlier this week for a reported house fire. Additional calls reported that a man had tried to re enter the structure. The first-arriving company confirmed a working fire in a large 2 1/2-story duplex house with heavy smoke and fire showing.

An additional engine was requested to the scene, but the fire had such a deep start that a second alarm was called.
During the attempts to bring the fire under control, the roof began to collapse and all firefighters were ordered out of the building. Large hoses with large amounts of water were directed inside the building.
The fire took more than two hours to bring under control, according to Deputy Chief Rick Yackel. The American Red Cross was assisting the occupants of the home. No one was hurt during the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Several roads in the area were closed to traffic for several hours.
