Retired Elizabeth (NJ) Fire Chief Dies After Responding to Fire

Lou Kelly

Retired Elizabeth (NJ) Fire Chief Lou Kelly has passed away after falling ill at the scene of a fire, according to a report.

NJ.com says Kelly, 70, was serving as a Union County Mutual Aid Coordinator while at a fire in Clark on December 8 when he fell ill and was hospitalized.

Kelly retired from the Elizabeth Fire Department in 2003 after working as a firefighter for more than 33 years.

“He was an old-school, tough chief who died doing what he loved doing and dedicated his life to,” said area fire photographer Ron Jeffers.
