Queens (NY) Fire Destroys Multiple Buildings

A raging two-alarm fire in a two-story, two-family home on 185th Street in the Rochdale section of Queens, New York, left two families homeless and three buildings destroyed.

Units of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) arrived at the address around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, April 16, to find the rear of the home engulfed in flames.

The fire quickly spread to the upper floors and also consumed two garages in the rear of the home and one of the exposures.

The intense heat also damaged houses on two sides of the original fire building.’

Only one resident of the second floor was home at the time of the blaze but was able to escape to safety.

About 75 FDNY firefighters from around the borough were called to the scene, with no serious injuries reported.
